TOPSTOX
RACING RULES
1.The Race Director controls the
races and their decisions must be adhered to. They have the right to
exclude drivers from results for rule breaking. Any practice throughout
the meeting will also be controlled by the Race Director.
2.All national round heats will be
6 minutes long. Consolations will be 6 minutes and finals 8 minutes.
(For Championship events see Championship section).
3.All cars will have to do 1 lap to
prove their transponder and brakes work before each race. After this
point, no driver is to be advised or approached on the rostrum.
4.If a driver pulls the ‘CAUTION’
cord all cars must stop immediately and allow the marshals to clear the
incident. The race will not resume until the Race Director call ‘DRIVERS
READY and will sound the horn to restart the race
5.No cars to be put on or off the
track whilst the race is under way, unless a “drive on lane” is in
operation at the venue. Restarted cars may rejoin from the pit lane when
safe to do so or on the track at the next race stoppage if there is one
6.Cars to line up in Graded order
marked on the track fence for all national round races. (see
Championship section for championship differences). Heats contain
between 6 and 8 cars. Top 6 heat point scorers through to the final,
with the next 8 into the consolation. 1st and 2nd
from the consolation through to the final to make an 8 car grid.
7.All cars to be checked for height
and weight before the final, and the top 3 rechecked for weight at the
end of the race.
8.New drivers entering a Topstox
meeting must start at white grade. (The Topstox committee reserve the
right to up-grade any ‘new’ driver based on their ‘known’ ability).
9.Roof colours and amounts as
follows, White – Unlimited, Yellow – 25%, Blue – 25%, Red – 25%,
Superstar – 15% Reigning Points Champion to have a Silver roof and Super
Star grade for full season. British Champion - black and white chequered
European Champion - red and yellow chequered. Lady Points Champion – 2
pink stripes. Junior Points Champion – 1 silver stripe. All champions
must clearly display their status on the body/aerofoil. All championship
holders other than National Points champion have the option to start
from their graded position, or from the rear of the grid, and to change
the colour of their roof accordingly.
Drivers will start the
year on whatever roof colour they finished with in the previous year.
Drivers will be
eligible for grading after their first 4 meetings however infrequent
they are. As the season progresses you will be graded on your last 4
meetings not the last 4 consecutive meetings. However, if you get
re-graded to a roof colour you think is inappropriate for driving
ability then you can contact Brian, Richard or Gary and say why you
think it’s wrong.
White roofs for
beginners so once you have moved up from white you will never go any
lower than yellow.

consolation, will be awarded 7 points should they unable to start the
A-Final.
12.The four worst score rounds will
be dropped from each drivers score to establish the national points
champion. All Championship meetings are non points events. There are 3
grading periods equally spread throughout the season to determine roof
colour/grade. Only drivers active within the season will be graded. Only
the National Points Champion is excluded from re-grading. Scotland will continue with their own grading but
must bring evidence (their current grading list) and be evaluated by the
Race Director if racing a national round.
24th June 2012,
English Open Championship
...Saturday is free practice, Free camping Saturday night and canteen will
be open. £15 entry fee to non club members.
Fastest laps of the day - 6.47 seconds by Dave
Wright in Race 1 Lap 27
and also in 6.47 seconds by Mark Staziker in Race 8 on Lap 47.
Its always good to know your
doing something right.
Trackside today, we had 2
more potential drivers. One
has just bought a Topstox
and the other is on the
lookout, ready and waiting
to buy one. Both stayed all
day to watch the racing and
both took membership forms
with them. They also
commented on how friendly
everyone was.
10 drivers raced at today's
meeting. Aiden was absent
due to his retirement from
Topstox racing. This means
I’m free to concentrate on
race control...so I’m still
thinking of an excuse for
not connecting the loop and
realising 1 minute into the
first race. No damage done
though, drivers in heat 1
still had just under 5 mins.
of racing. Apologies to
those 5 drivers. ;-)
As is the norm this year,
close racing in all the days
races. It makes being race
director ev...en
better ‘cos its never
boring.
Alec won today's award for
best aerobatics.....Dave,
marshalling at the far end
of the track, got a close up
view of this crash and was
saved by the fencing on the
marshalling post.
Staz got the award for the
most distance covered by
rolling your car down the
left hand straight and
carrying on unscathed.
And Brian gets the award for
most distance covered in a
race using your roof.
9 cars started the final but
after one lap Dennis had to
retire. A couple more cars
were also forced to retire
including Wayne with a
broken front wheel and
Richard, who’s engine had
separated from the chassis.
Dave lead the first 36 laps
but was smoothly overtaken
by the roof-sliding hitman,
Brian. Once in front, Brian
stayed there for the rest of
the race closely followed by
Dave who just couldn’t quite
catch back up. Both
finishing the race on 51
laps. In third was Kevin
with his best finish of the
day.
Another great day at NDLO,
can’t wait for the next one
on 27th May.
See you all there.

So far this season, the best lap time in the Sprint
cars was held by Brian Short and was the only lap under 6
seconds, 5.945 seconds to be precise.
This time was beaten yesterday 30th May 2010 by Wayne
(fast but unlucky) Mokes with a stunning time of 5.935 seconds.
This years quickest lap in the TopStox is 6.366 seconds recorded on the 9th
May 2010 by Richard Lower #555.
Do you have a 1/5th Touring Car
(2 or 4WD it doesn't matter) or a 1/6th scale Racing Truck and nowhere to
race?
Why not bring it along and try
our Oval track for size. A bit different to Circuit racing but it sure is
fun. Why not come along to our next meeting and have a look?

FAIL SAFE
SYSTEMS
1. Cars
should have an electronic and mechanical failsafe device that must return
the throttle to neutral when activated. I.e. Through loss of battery power
and/or loss of radio signal
Please note:- The electronic failsafe on your handset will only work (If set up)
only if your car goes out of range of the handset or loses radio contact
with handset for some reason.
If
for any reason the receiver loses power (broken battery or battery wire
etc.) and the throttle is open, the handset failsafe will not have any
effect, but then a mechanical failsafe will work and will therefore stop the car.
Example
of a mechanical fail safe on a
Sprintcar.
Example of a mechanical fail safe on a TopStox
In
the event of a loss of battery power to the receiver, then this spring will
return throttle to neutral. The one in the picture is from a ball pen. (Too
strong a spring and servo may struggle to open throttle, too weak and it may
not return throttle to neutral)
On a Sprintcar or even a straight forward Marder, a spring fixed to throttle
lever on carb and attached with a small cable tie to rear bulkhead works
perfectly too.
